@kmhow Yep, the Chelsea Hotel is quite famous (infamous?) for being the hangout for many associated with Andy Warhol in the 1960s, including the subject of this song, Edie Sedgwick herself, not to mention Nico, Lou Reed, Paul Morrisey, Gerard Malanga, Bridgid Polk, Candy Darling, and many other wonderful characters. I was not familiar with her--I was a Cult fan for Love, Electric and Sonic Temple then lost interest--but I Googled her and found out more info. What a beautiful woman! And yeah, some of the stories about her are quite entertaining. :-) Although it seems Ian's drinking problems caused their breakup, but she's certainly no angel!

But what made that era so much different then now is we had a variety of genres and performers/groups to choose from. You could find something you identified with and would listen to. Now, it's more like the record companies tell you what you should like and only record albums along those lines. Fewer choices in music, mass produced tripe. At least, now, there's the net for discovering new/old music.
