@toomanyaccounts - I dont mean this to sound funny if it does :P buuut, you say Australia and Europe have this...I live in the UK, am such a Doctor Who nerd and have never ever heard of this program. I totally agree with the keeping the kids entertained, but isn't that what Sarah Jane Adventures is for? SJA actually works and is properly and is intertwined with Doctor Who + has the real K9. This K9 program just doesn't cut it for me, but thats just my opinion :P p.s yes I'm a big kid XD

@Chrisplyr457 It does have the support. It's meant to be in the Doctor Who continutinity. It is set in the year 2050. Australia and Europe have it. k-9 was created to keep children entertained while their parents watched doctor who. There was an attempt to make a k-9 show called "K-9 and Companions" with Sarah Jane and several members of her family. It had a pilot but wasn't picked up.

@nivek391 I've seen the rest of this, the suspect starts firing from a standing postion whilst retreating backwards towards the house, he misses the officer and the dog. Because of the intervention of the K9 the officer gets given a few much needed seconds to get his back-up gun from his ankle holster and he returns fire from a kneeling postion., hitting the perp. The dog was a drug sniffer and wasn't trained for restraining humans but she got stuck in anyway, gotta love the K9s

i LOVED this, these four legged OFFICERS do so much for the public that its hard for ppl who have never seen them in action to understand exactly how important they are. This video is outstanding!!! I loved to see how the dogs responded to the commands from the handlers and how, at the begaining, it shows that they are not just working dogs, but a part of the handler's family as well. They become a family member to their handler and the love & respect that handler & dog have does show.

Bite work is first taught in prey drive, but later, as the dog matures, defense drive needs to be added as well. I think that this is excellent training video, and especially with dogs doing obedience while another dog is doing bite work, shows the level of distraction being taken by the obedience dogs, and these dogs are being "proofed" to ignore all things. I still question the logic of the helper petting the dog after the "out" command is given and the bite work is finished.

@alexnds1 it teaches them to have a calm bite and good grip, not a nervous chewing bite with poor grip. When the dogs go out into the world, and they actually get a real bite, they hold on with good firm grip until told to out.

@Ginghamdogcp I agree with you. I work with two protection trained GSDs and our company also has Belgian Mals which ive worked with, yes they are faster and more agile, but also very nervous in some cases, but otherwise, the two breeds are the same. Both highly intelligent, willing, strong dogs, well suited to the job. But my personal opinion, having worked with both, shepherds are definately better.

@alexnds1 The 'Training' taking place with the dog is teaching him to differentiate when the handler makes the call of when to bite and when not to. Not all bad guys jump up and down, as some are passive. It's a big liability if you have a dog that just goes on 'motion' or when the dog deems it right. The picture is the same, but I am telling the handler when the dog is to bite or not to.

it's silly to teach a dog that bits the helper to then get petted by the helper. The helper is not a "Friend" of the dog, but represents what in real life would be a criminal. These dogs bite in prey drive, for the prey object. What dog would be petted by a criminal? The defense drive is developed when dog believes the helper can hurt the dog good initial training in prey drive but why pet them?.
